Dining Table Price in India: What You Pay and Why

A made-to-order dining table from our workshop starts at ₹40,000. A six-seater in sheesham is ₹60,000; the same table in teak is ₹80,000. The wood you choose moves the price more than anything else.

Most furniture sites will not show you a number at all. Here is the full table, what changes it, and which wood is actually worth paying for.

What a dining table costs

Prices for our standard sizes, by timber:

SeatingSizeSheeshamWalnutTeak
4-seater, square800 × 800 mm₹40,000₹48,000₹55,000
4-seater, rectangular1,200 × 800 mm₹45,000₹52,000₹60,000
6-seater1,600 × 900 mm₹60,000₹70,000₹80,000
8-seater2,000 × 1,000 mm₹85,000₹95,000₹1,15,000

Two things to read out of that. Going from four seats to eight roughly doubles the price, because it is roughly twice the timber. And teak carries about a 35% premium over sheesham at every size — a consistent gap, not a marketing one.

What gets added

  • Carved or ornate top instead of a plain slab: ₹5,000 to ₹10,000.
  • Leaf extension that pulls out to seat two more: ₹15,000 to ₹20,000.
  • Tempered glass top, made to your table and fittable at any time: ₹15,000 to ₹25,000.

The leaf is the one worth thinking hardest about. It is good value if you genuinely host larger numbers a few times a year — far cheaper than buying a bigger table you then live around every day.

Which wood

This is the decision that sets your budget, and the three behave differently.

Sheesham

Indian rosewood, and the sensible default. Dense, hard-wearing and the most affordable of the three, with a strong dark grain that varies a lot between boards — some people love that, some want uniformity. Properly seasoned sheesham is a table you hand down.

Walnut

Lighter in colour and finer in grain than sheesham, which makes a big table feel less heavy in a room. It sits in the middle on price. Softer than teak, so it marks a little more readily under hard use.

Teak

The most expensive, and the most stable. Teak's natural oil content is what sets it apart — it moves less with changes in humidity and resists moisture and insects better than anything else here. In a climate that swings from a four-month monsoon to dry summer heat, that stability is the thing you are actually buying.

If the table will live in an open, humid or semi-outdoor space, teak earns its premium. In an air-conditioned dining room in regular use, sheesham does the job for considerably less.

What else moves the price

  • Size. The dominant factor after timber — it is simply more material and more surface to finish.
  • Top design. A plain slab is one operation; carving is many.
  • The base. A four-leg frame is the simplest build. A pedestal or twin-column base carries the same load through fewer contact points, which takes more engineering.
  • The finish. How a top is sealed decides how it handles spilled water, hot vessels and daily wiping.

The base matters more than people think

Everyone chooses a table by the top. The base decides whether it is still solid in year five.

A dining table is pushed, leaned on and dragged. If the base is under-built or the joints are stapled rather than properly made, it develops a wobble that gets worse. Worth asking about any table, ours or anyone else's:

  • Is the timber properly seasoned? Unseasoned wood keeps moving after it is built, and that is what loosens joints.
  • Does a pedestal base have enough footprint to resist being pushed sideways?
  • Can it be taken apart for delivery, or does it have to come through your door in one piece?

We build both parts in our own factory in Cherlapalli — see how we build and the materials and specifications page.

Get the size right first

Settle dimensions before timber, because the size sets the budget band. In short: a six-seater needs about 180 cm of length for three people down each side, and roughly 90 cm of clearance from the table edge to the nearest wall so chairs can pull out.

The full arithmetic — sizes by seat count, the room each needs, round versus rectangular, and the apron height that decides whether your legs fit — is in our dining table size guide.

There are no competitor figures in that table because we cannot verify them, and an invented comparison is worth nothing to you. Compare quotes on the rows instead.

Mistakes we see

  • Buying teak out of habit. Teak is excellent, but in an air-conditioned room in normal use, sheesham does the same job for about 35% less. Pay the premium for a reason, not a reflex.
  • Forgetting the chairs. The table fits; the chairs pulled out do not. Measure the open position.
  • Skipping the leaf, then regretting it. Adding one later is not straightforward. Decide at the order stage.
  • Not checking how it gets in. Measure the doorway, the lift and the stairwell turn before ordering, and ask whether it can be delivered knocked down.
  • Judging by the top alone. The top is what you see; the base is what lasts or does not.

Getting a quote

Send the room dimensions — the length and width of the dining area, and where the nearest walls or furniture sit. A floor plan, an architect's drawing or a photo with measurements all work.

If your room suits a size that is not on the list, we build to it; that is the advantage of making rather than stocking. Browse the dining range, see custom options, or come and look at timber samples in person — the workshop is open Monday to Saturday, 9:30 to 19:30. Plan a visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a dining table cost in India?

From our workshop, ₹40,000 for a 4-seater in sheesham up to ₹1,15,000 for an 8-seater in teak. A 6-seater runs ₹60,000 in sheesham, ₹70,000 in walnut and ₹80,000 in teak.

What is the price of a 6 seater dining table?

₹60,000 in sheesham, ₹70,000 in walnut, ₹80,000 in teak, for a 1,600 × 900 mm top. Carving, a leaf extension or a glass top are extra.

Which wood is best for a dining table?

Teak if the room is humid, open or semi-outdoor — its natural oils make it the most stable. Sheesham for an air-conditioned dining room in normal use, at roughly 35% less. Walnut if you want a lighter-looking table and will sit between the two on price.

Is teak worth the extra cost over sheesham?

It depends on the room. Teak moves less with humidity and resists moisture and insects better, which matters in an open or damp space. In a controlled indoor room, well-seasoned sheesham performs well for considerably less.

How much does a leaf extension add?

₹15,000 to ₹20,000, and it seats two more. Worth it if you host larger numbers occasionally — cheaper than living with an oversized table every day. It has to be specified when the table is built.

Can I get a dining table made to my room size?

Yes. The sizes above are standards, not limits. Send the room dimensions and we will build to them.
